Urgent Appeal: A Catastrophic Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan, and Lives Hang in the Balance!
OnSaturday, October 7, 2023, a devastating earthquake of 6.3 magnitude rocked Afghanistan, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. The toll is unfathomable: 2,000 lives have already been lost, and thousands more lie wounded, their cries for help echoing in the rubble.
This heart-wrenching disaster struck just 40km northwest of the city of Herat in Afghanistan, where the agony knows no bounds. Up to 3,000 families – a staggering 10,000 innocent souls – have been plunged into a nightmare they never asked for. Twelve villages near Herat now resemble ghost towns, the laughter of children silenced, homes reduced to ruins. Desperation hangs in the air, and hope flickers like a dying ember.
In the midst of this chaos and despair,Forgotten Women team are on the ground offering a glimmer of hope, providing primary health assistance and conducting crucial needs assessments.
But the battle is far from won. Our brave teams are determined to stay and fight for the lives of those who have lost everything. They are poised to provide essential health services, distribute life-saving tents, critical non-food items, and crucial cash vouchers to those who have been hit the hardest.

Since 2021, instability has ravaged the country, pushing countless families into the abyss of poverty, malnutrition, and the grim collapse of basic services. By April 2023, a staggering 40% of Afghanistan’s population was grappling with acute food insecurity – a brutal reality where hunger gnaws at the very core of existence.
Afghanistan stands at the precipice of one of the world’s most dire humanitarian crises, and the lives of millions hang in the balance. The children of Afghanistan are not spared from this cruel fate, as they already succumb to the ruthless grip of hunger.
