2025: Strength. Hope. Unity – Forgotten Women

Ramadan is the best month for Muslims around the world to give, to reflect, to help mankind to become better, and to develop selflessness, empathy and compassion.

2024 is about drawing Strength, Hope & Unity. With the world facing genocide of the innocent women and children in Gaza, to extreme hunger / famine in Yemen and Afghanistan – it is easy to lose hope. Over the past year Gaza, Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, and Bangladesh have been inflicted with either natural disasters, war or famine. The sad reality is that women always tend to be the ones who suffer the most and make the most sacrifices for the sake of survival because there no other choices. Our team has witnessed so many accounts of women having to compromise their dignity with indecent acts for basic food. In tough situations women will look at the only assets they have, that tends to be themselves and their children.

As this is the best month for giving for Muslims, let us all come together regardless of race, colour or religion, let us come together for the sake of humanity and draw Strength, Hope, Unity from each other.

1. GAZA
The war in Gaza has affected every single soul on the face of this earth, and on many different levels. Since 7
th October 2023,the world has not been the same, and it never will be. Images projected across the world of slaughtered women and children has sent shockwaves through society. Many people have fallen into despair, many have switched off from all media because their hearts and minds are too traumatized by the suffering, and many have managed their emotions by coming together, uniting, and speaking out against these heinous acts that are being committed so openly in front of the world.

2. YEMEN
Yemen remains one of the most food insecure countries, mainly driven by the impact of conflict and amongst this it is always the women who suffer the most. Millions are reaching crisis levels of hunger. The UN has declared Yemen to be the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, the ongoing conflict has left children and families in urgent need of food and water. Women will avoid eating so that their children can have enough to eat. The displacement, and high rates of physical, psychological and sexual violence is causing much suffering. The UN says that tens of thousands of people in Yemen are currently living in famine-like conditions, while some six million people are on the verge of famine.

What We Are Doing:
1. Emergency Food Aid (Zakah eligible) £60
2. Tanker of Water (feeds over 200 people) £75

3. AFGHANISTAN
For 43 years the Afghan people were living under occupation and war. The country was left decimated, with many households in dire poverty. Our team from the UK have sat with the women in Afghanistan, sharing their experiences with us, and often for the first time, disclosing the harrowing war crimes that have been committed against them. As the country tries to rebuild itself the suffering of women and children continues to rise on a mass scale. The streets are littered with women begging for food. Many women have been forced to sell their daughters as young as 4, so they can feed themselves and their children.

What We Are Doing:
1. Emergency Food Aid (Zakah eligible) £60
2. Business set up for widow and her children, instant income for years to come (permanent change, Zakah eligible, one off donation) £1000

4. SYRIA
After 13 years of war, the Syrians continue to suffer. More than 13 million people have been forced to flee their homes, and an estimated 15 million are now relying on humanitarian assistance. The never-ending disasters kept many families moving from place to place in search of safety, especially in the war-torn north, where some cities have been reduced to rubble by their own government forces. Adding to the complexity of these challenges is a deepening hunger crisis, an increase in acute malnutrition, and alarming levels of anaemia among children and young women. The severity of the issue is dire, with approximately 5.9 million people, including 3.75 million children and 2.1 million women, needing urgent nutritional assistance.

What We Are Doing:
1. Emergency Food Aid (Zakah eligible) £60
2. Safe Toilet £350
3. Shower Unit £350
4. Fasting Hot Meal (per person) £2

5. PAKISTAN
“The floods in 2022 were the worst in Pakistan’s history where over 33 million people were displaced, many, largely women and children have been affected long term. The floods highlighted a deeper issue in Sindh and Balochistan – extreme poverty. Women and children are suffering in silences, we must act now.” S.Ali, Director, Forgotten Women

Sodhar, from one of the most affected areas said that her entire family, including pregnant women and infants, have no shelter and are living out in the open, constantly exposed to the scorching weather in the nearby town of Mehar. “We barely get one meal a day. Our children are crying all day. What can you tell them, to stop crying when there is no home for them?” There is a need to protect these vulnerable women who are living in the open with a safe and secure housing, we are building ‘Homes For Life’ that will house a woman and her children, it costs just £700 for a brick/concentrate house which will last her a lifetime. £700 will take a woman and her children off the streets and provide her a home, where she will be safe and her dignity will be protected.

What We Are Doing:
1. Food Aid (Zakah eligible) £60
2. Home for Life (Zakah eligible, permanent concrete house) £700

6. BANGLADESH
A significant proportion of people live in slums which fall apart during the monsoon season and have no regular electricity. They also have limited or no access to health care, basic food and drinking water. The phenomenon of female-headed households is a new and emerging pattern in Bangladesh, this is due to the social abandonment of women by husbands on the one hand, and fathers, brothers, uncles on the other who are unable or not willing to provide making survival a challenge for women.

What We Are Doing:
1. Food Aid (Zakah eligible) £60
2. Safe Toilet £350
