When Shaista’s husband died, she lost more than a partner. She lost her place in a society where a man’s absence can mean the end of a woman’s security. A widow with two children, she was suddenly expected to survive on her own, in a world that rarely lets women do exactly that.
There was no safety net waiting for her. No steady income, no clear way forward, and few doors open to a woman in her position. Like so many, she was left to carry everything alone, uncertain how she would provide for the children depending on her.

Shaista began sewing clothes from home. Ordering fabrics from Karachi, selling her designs online and across her neighbourhood. Her home, on the second floor, is filled with the plants she tends with the same care she puts into rebuilding her life. When we met her, she proudly showed us a small flower that releases a sweet scent when touched. Each stitch she sews now carries her hope. Each sale, a quiet victory.
